let me count the ways [01 Jan 2010|09:06pm]

Happy New Years everyone.
Today it snowed! And it finally stayed on the ground.
I know I'm mostly alone in this, but I actually really like winter.
Sure it's dark, and gloomy, and cold but I don't mind it, you know?
Part of it is just how beautiful snow is. Every time it snows I get a little happier, especially snow at night, the way it lights up everything.
Part of it is a machismo thing. I feel like such a tough guy every time I walk outside when the temperature drops into negative double digits.
There's nothing like hot chocolate, hot tea, fireplaces, woolly sweaters in the winter.
And just try and tell me hot showers are the same in the summer.
Nope, there's just something special about a bitter January day.

in search of lost time [30 Dec 2009|05:16pm]

But of late I have been increasingly able to catch, if I listen attentively, the sound of the sobs which I had the strength to control in my father's presence, and which broke out only when I found myself alone with Mamma. Actually, their echo has never ceased: it is only because life is now growing more and more quiet round about me that I hear them afresh, like those convent bells which are so effectively drowned during the day by the noises of the streets that one would suppose them to have been stopped for ever, until they sound out again through the silent evening air.

So!
Good fucking riddance, 2009!
I was not impressed with the majority of you. 2010, however, will be wicked rad. My new years resolution (and I am not allowed to give it up all year) is to become more organized/anal. I'm already trying to plan out my days meticulously but it goes against my grain so much, I can't even tell you.
Tomorrow I'm stocking up on file folders, highlighters, maybe a bulletin board? And I'm going to get my school stuff too.
First semester went pretty well from what I can tell, I'm optimistic/terrified/excited for second semester.
Lonely roads up ahead.
